Imprisoned Liaoning Woman Denied Family Visits and Pension Benefits

August 12, 2019 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Liaoning Province, China

(Minghui.org) A Dalian City, Liaoning Province resident serving a four-year term is being denied visitation for refusing to renounce her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Yu Chunxiang was arrested on April 24, 2018 after being reported for talking to people about Falun Gong.

The Xigang District Court in Dalian City held a secret trial of her and sentenced her to four years in prison on September 4, 2018 without informing her lawyer or family.

She appealed the verdict to Dalian Intermediate Court, which upheld her sentence without due process in February 2019.

Ms. Yu was taken to Liaoning Women’s Prison on April 23, 2019 and has been denied visits by her family since then because she refuses to renounce Falun Gong.

Although her lawyer was able to meet her on June 12, 2019, the meeting was closely monitored by the guards, who stood between Ms. Yu and the lawyer. The guards also appeared to be very nervous and frequently interrupted the lawyer.

The local social security office suspended Ms. Yu’s pension since July 2019, without giving any valid reasons. Her family vowed to appeal for her.
