(Minghui.org) A Xiangtan City, Hunan Province resident is facing indictment for not renouncing her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Guo Mingqing, 56, was arrested on June 12, 2019 for talking to a student about Falun Gong. The student's father struck her repeatedly and reported her to the police. She was put on criminal detention on June 27 after 15 days of administrative detention. The Yuetang District Procuratorate approved her arrest on July 9 and is the process of filing an indictment against her.
A police officer warned that Ms. Guo was a "repeat offender" and could face a heavy prison term. She has been sentenced for her faith before, and her latest arrest came only one year after she was released from a two-year prison term, which followed her earlier arrest on March 23, 2016, when another student to whom she spoke about Falun Gong reported her to the police and held her until the police arrived.
Since the day of Ms. Guo's latest arrest, her 82-year-old mother, Ms. Luo Anyin, has frequented the Xiashesi Police Station to seek her daughter's release, but to no avail.
He Maofeng, the officer overseeing their neighborhood, verbally abused Ms. Guo's mother and threatened to “beat her to death” if she didn't give up trying to secure Ms. Guo's release.
The elderly mother then went to several other government agencies, including the local Police Department and Political and Legal Affairs Committee, but was met with the cold shoulder each time. The security guards at these agencies didn't allow her to enter and said she should talk to the police station in charge of the arrest.
In late July 2019, Ms. Guo's lawyer obtained copies of her administrative and criminal detention notices, as well as her arrest warrant. The lawyer filed a complaint to the Xiangtan City Supervision Office against the police's illegal arrest and detention of his client.
Ms. Guo was a retired employee of Zijiang Heribicide Company. She used to suffer from severe liver infection and sinusitis, but all her symptoms disappeared after she took up Falun Gong in 1997. A divorced woman, she also became much happier and had a more positive outlook on life.
Because of not giving up Falun Gong and raising awareness about the persecution, Ms. Guo has been repeatedly arrested and served three labor camp terms for a total of 4.75 years and one prison term of two years. During her incarceration, she was subjected to various tortures and corporal punishment, including restricted restroom use, starvation, and being hung up for days.
The repeated arrests of Ms. Guo, a single mother, deeply scarred her son, who became withdrawn and rebellious. Her parents struggled to discipline him when she was not around.
While Ms. Guo was imprisoned at Hunan Women's Prison in 2017, her older brother passed away, which was only a few years after their father's death.
Ms. Guo's latest arrest dealt a heavy blow to her mother, who is still mourning the loss of her husband and son. The elderly mother is calling on the international community to help rescue her daughter.
