July 02, 2019 |   By a Falun Gong practitioner from Liaoning Province, China

(Minghui.org) Ms. Hua Yanru 50, is a Falun Gong practitioner from the Binhai New Area in Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province. She was sentenced to two years in Liaoning Women’s Prison in the Binhai New Area Court on April 24, 2019.

Ever since her husband's death seven years ago, Ms. Hua has shouldered the burden of supporting the family, including paying for her son’s education. On top of working a regular job, she takes care of her in-laws and her own elderly parents.

On November 1, 2018, Ms. Hua was arrested while she was in the midst of preparing for her son’s wedding. Binhai New Area Domestic Security Division Li Gang and other police officers went to her workplace and took Ms. Hua into custody. Then they went to her home and ransacked it. She was taken to Jinzhou City Women’s Detention Center that night.

Prior to her arrest and subsequent sentence, Ms. Hua had been closely monitored by the police. They intentionally chose the time of arrest in order to create more hardship for her family.

The residents in her community were upset that she had been arrested. They submitted a petition signed by 200 people attesting to Ms. Hua's good character.

The Procuratorate of Binhai New Area approved her arrest on November 13, 2018. Her case was submitted to the Binhai New Area Court at the end of December 2018. She was tried on March 21, 2019, and sentenced to two years in prison on April 24, 2019.

Family Appeals

While Ms. Hua was detained, her parents and in-laws went to the Domestic Security Division, the Procuratorate, and the Court to seek her release, but to no avail. The family remains distraught and are very concerned about her welfare.
