(Minghui.org) Authorities in Hebei Province recently launched a 100-day campaign to target residents who refuse to renounce Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since July 1999.
A special task force was set up by the Hebei Province Public Security Bureau to carry out the campaign spanning April 5 to July 15, 2019. Li Hongyu, former head of the Laishui County 610 Office, was asked to lead the task force. The 610 Office is an extralegal agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong practitioners.
The task force is headquartered in a hotel in Laishui County. Police in both Baoding City and Laishui County were mobilized to monitor Falun Gong practitioners. Plainclothes officers were stationed at village entrances and local fairs to arrest practitioners caught talking to people about Falun Gong.
The police also instructed local village officials to visit 16 Falun Gong practitioners and take their pictures. Some of the practitioners were arrested days later.
A total of eight practitioners are confirmed to have been arrested on April 12. Seven of them remain in custody at the time of writing.
Mr. Zhao Xiliang of Huguo Village was arrested by Yang Jian, chief of Loucun Township Police Station. It is unclear where he is being held.
Ms. Dong Yanjun of Bancheng Village is being held at Baoding City Detention Center. An unknown amount of cash, seven printers, and three computers were confiscated during her arrest.
Yan Yong and Jiang Shuxian, a married couple in Beilongquan Village, are being held in Laishui County Detention Center. Their computer, printer, and Falun Gong books were confiscated.
Another married couple, Yang Xifang and Yu Fengyun, who are from Dachidu Village, were arrested at 1 a.m. at home. They are probably in the Laishui County Detention Center, too. Their Falun Gong books were confiscated.
Ji Xiuzhi is also in the Laishui County Detention Center.
Cheng Shuli of Seshu Village was arrested but released hours later.
In addition to the eight above, Yan Hequan and Li Zecun were also targeted, but they were not at home and escaped arrest.
