Liaoning Man Imprisoned for His Faith Denied Family Visits Prior to Chinese New Year

March 07, 2019 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Liaoning Province, China

(Minghui.org) A Yingkou City, Liaoning Province resident serving five years at Dalian Prison was denied an important family visit because of not renouncing his faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Mr. Jin Fuzhang's family, including his son (about 10 years old), his mother in her 80s, and his wife, contacted the prison before the Chinese New Year in the hopes of visiting their loved one prior to the holiday.

The prison guards rejected their meeting request, and further, would not allow them to make a regular monetary deposit for Mr. Jin to buy daily necessities in the prison.

Revocation of family visitation and prohibition of deposits into commissary accounts have become new tactics used by prisons across Liaoning Province to punish Falun Gong practitioners who refuse to renounce their faith. At Liaoning Women's Prison, Ms. Xia Ning wasn't allowed to buy menstrual pads or take showers because of holding firm to her faith.

Mr. Jin, 41, was arrested on June 28, 2016. He appeared in the Xishi District Court on April 28, 2017, and was sentenced three months later.

During Mr. Jin's detention, his elderly mother was given the run-around between the police station, the procuratorate and the courts while seeking justice for her son.

After Mr. Jin was admitted to Dalian Prison, he was forced to work without pay at the prison clothing factory. The prison authorities initially denied family visits but later allowed Mr. Jin's family to see him in order to coerce his family members into persuading him to stop practicing Falun Gong. His loved ones refused to go along with this ploy and were denied visitation rights again.

Prior to his latest prison term, Mr. Jin had served three years for his faith not long after the persecution of Falun Gong began in 1999.
