(Minghui.org) Many Falun Dafa practitioners have mentioned that when they are out on the street telling people the facts about the practice and the persecution, they are sometimes treated coldly, or insulted. This is a good opportunity to improve our mind nature (xinxing). If we truly search within for the source of this type of treatment, we may find that it results from our own hidden attachments.
I would like to provide a few examples of how I improved my xinxing while helping people learn the truth about Dafa and about the persecution that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) launched in an attempt to destroy the practice.
I often distribute a book called The Ultimate Purpose of Communism. The cover might lead people to think at first glance that the book praises the Chinese Communist Party, when actually the publication exposes the evil nature of the CCP. In an attempt to avoid dangerous situations, I handed the book out without revealing what it was actually about. Once I realized that this motivation was selfish, I changed my approach.
The next time I went out, I encountered a lady and made up my mind to give her a copy of the book. I said to her, “Auntie, I’d like to give you this book.” She glanced at the cover and said, “I don’t want it.” I went on to say, “This book exposes the evil nature of communism. After you read it, you will understand the truth and no longer be deceived by the CCP.” She said, “Ok, Thank you,” and accepted it.
I enlightened that if we don't behave according to Falun Dafa’s principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, divine beings cannot reinforce our efforts to help people learn the facts and create a good future for themselves.
I once met a neighbor who was in her eighties and wanted to give her a book to take to her son. She repeatedly said, “I can't read, I can't read.” Even though there was an onlooker teasing her, I still strongly encouraged her to take the book. I later thought, “How could I do such a terrible thing? It was so reprehensible of me to embarrass her that way!”
I asked myself, “Why did I force an older, illiterate woman to take the book after she refused it?” It suddenly dawned on me that I just wanted to give the book away as quickly as possible. My heart was not invested in helping her learn the facts and distance herself from the CCP, but for myself, to get my work done.
When I talked to a fellow practitioner, Ah Jing, she said, “I noticed that every time you go out, you are anxious to give away the books as quickly as possible. Master (Li Hongzhi) brings people who have predestined relationships to us, so long as we have the heart to help them.”
She continued, “On one occasion, I took a bag of brochures and went out to distribute them, but couldn’t give out a single copy. I was a little anxious, but I then approached a group of people who were working, and all the materials were readily accepted. I realized that Master had guided me to those people, who were open to learning the truth. I have never since felt worried about not being able to give out materials. All I need to do is have the thought of bringing information to the people who want it, and I give out all my materials every time.”
One day when I was out with Ah Jing, we met a 50-year-old man planting vegetables in his garden. We told him all about Falun Dafa and the persecution and suggested that he renounce his membership in the CCP to protect his future. He listened attentively, and then he told us he was a CCP member and was not about to quit.
I asked Master in my heart to help the man. Ah Jing then plucked up her courage and explained the facts one more time. He then suddenly changed his mind and withdrew from the CCP.
I once went out with Ah Jing to distribute booklets and talk to people. I took nine copies with me and quickly gave away eight of them. I thought, “Why do I still have this last book? I must have a problem with my xinxing.” I looked within and realized that I wanted to give out the last one so I could go home.” My mind was not really focused on helping people truly understand that Dafa is good and the CCP is wrong for persecuting good people.
I said to myself, “It’s wrong to feel so protective about myself. I am with a fellow practitioner to help people learn the truth. We should both endure the pressure involved with handing out materials which expose the CCP crimes. At that moment, a person came out of his home. He accepted the booklet and thanked me profusely.
Ah Jing once mentioned, “I just want to help others learn the truth.” Her words really touched my heart and I asked myself, “Was I sincere in my wish to help people learn the truth?” I found that deep inside, I was just out to do the three things asked of practitioners, and complete my path of cultivation. I was not truly thinking about the people who had been duped into believing the lies about Dafa that the CCP had instilled in them.
I thought to myself, “No matter how difficult it is, I must look past my own self-interest and see the bigger picture.” I then began to correct my selfish thoughts and devote my heart to truly helping people.
While in the midst of this realization, several people suddenly approached me. Some looked rich and others poor. I thought, “They are all sentient beings!” And as I handed out booklets to each of them, I realized that Master Li had sent me to help save them. I was content with this simple righteous thought.
In ordinary Chinese society, there is a natural distinction between the rich and poor, the noble and lowly, and people are commonly judged by their social status. When my motivation changed from solely trying to improve myself, to helping others, I had aligned with the principles of the Fa and everyone in the group naturally accepted my materials.
