Court-appointed Lawyer Pressures Falun Gong Practitioner to Plead Guilty, Or Else Face Heavier Sentencing for Her Faith

(Minghui.org) A court-appointed lawyer failed to make his client plead guilty to practicing Falun Gong. He then threatened her children that she may get 15 years or even life for holding firm to her faith.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Ren Suxiang, a resident in Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia, was scheduled to appear in court on February 28, 2019. She has been held at Yuanbaoshan District Detention Center for over two months since her arrest on December 18, 2018.

The lawyer appointed by Yuanbaoshan District Court visited Ms. Ren prior to the hearing and tried to coerce her into renouncing her faith and disclosing the sources of the computer and the banknotes confiscated from her home. The banknotes had messages about Falun Gong printed on them.

With tight information censorship in China, many Falun Gong practitioners have turned to creative ways to spread information about the ongoing persecution against their faith, including printing messages on banknotes.

Ms. Ren refused to comply with the lawyer. He then turned to her children and threatened them that their 55-year-old mother might spend the rest of her life in prison for practicing Falun Gong if she refused to plead guilty as he recommended.
