(Minghui.org) A Tianjin resident developed a heart condition and high blood pressure shortly after she was arrested for practicing Falun Gong on November 13, 2019. She has been hospitalized and watched around the clock by the police.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual and meditation tradition that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Li Heqin, in her 50s, used to suffer from heart disease and many other ailments. She tried many treatments, but none had good effects on her. Her health recovered soon after she took up Falun Gong. She was delighted and became more positive about life.
Ms. Li also credits Falun Gong’s principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance for helping her deal with family drama.
Ms. Li's husband had a strained relationship with his mother, who helped care for his brother's children, but not his three children.
Ms. Li's mother-in-law has two apartment units in addition to her own residence. As she has two sons, according to Chinese tradition, each son should have an equal share of the apartment units. So Mr. Li's husband asked if he could get his apartment earlier for his and Ms. Li's son, who'd just gotten married.
Ms. Li's mother-in-law said there was no way she'd give any apartment to Ms. Li's husband, who became so distraught and angry that he suffered a stroke and passed away.
With her husband being the sole breadwinner, Ms. Li struggled to make a living after his death. Their children disowned their grandmother.
Ms. Li reminded herself of Falun Gong’s principles and still treats her mother-in-law well and cared for her when she injured her leg.
When her brother-in-law’s son got married, she attended his wedding and brought him a gift.
Ms. Li’s own parents, who have two sons and six daughters, also played favorites just like her mother-in-law. Her parents gave their three houses to their sons. Ms. Li's five sisters went to court to seek their share of the property, and the judge handling the case wondered why she didn't join her sisters in the fight.
Ms. Li said that Falun Gong taught her to not fight for personal interest. The judge was very touched and praised her character.
The judge later ruled to divide the property between the eight siblings. Ms. Li received 70,000 yuan. She lent the money to her brothers, even though her own family also struggled to make ends meet.
Through all these family tribulations, Ms. Li's extended family on her side and her late husband's side have witnessed that Falun Gong is good and they are all calling for her release.
