Woman Gets Cancer and Hepatitis B in Custody, Prison Refuses to Provide Medical Treatment or Parole

November 06, 2019 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Liaoning Province, China

(Minghui.org) Ms. Lan Lihua, a Shenyang City, Liaoning Province resident, was arrested on November 6, 2018 for passing out a calendar with information about Falun Gong, a spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

The judge from Sujiatun District Court sentenced her to three years and ten months, one day after her court hearing on May 5, 2019.

Ms. Lan was subjected to various forms of torture while being held at Shenyang City No.1 Detention Center, including being tied up in a bed, because of doing Falun Gong meditation. The detention center refused to release her on medical parole after she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Instead they forced her to undergo surgery without her or her family's consent.

Ms. Lan, who was healthy before her arrest, contracted Hepatitis B shortly after she was sent to Liaoning Women’s Prison on September 26. Her family was recently told that they could seek medical treatment for her at their own expense, but there was no guarantee of medical parole.

Ms. Lan's loved ones are still weighing their options now that the prison has refused to provide medical care or allow her release on medical parole.
