Hebei Woman, in Her 70s, Faces Trial for Her Faith

October 11, 2019 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Hebei Province, China

(Minghui.org) A woman in her 70s is facing trial for raising awareness about the persecution of her faith, Falun Gong.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Chai Shuzhen, a Qianxi County, Hebei Province resident, was arrested on July 12, 2019, after being reported for talking to people about Falun Gong at a farmers' market.

The police submitted her case to Qianxi County Procuratorate in early August 2019.

Ms. Chai's family recently received a call from a court-appointed lawyer that her case has just been submitted to Zunhua City Court.

Her family went to the courthouse and learned that judge Wang, in her 40s, is in charge of the case.

The police are asking for a heavy term against Ms. Chai. They cited an earlier arrest, on December 28, 2017, also for talking to people about Falun Gong. The local detention center refused to admit her because of her poor health, so she was released that same day.

Life Renewed by Falun Gong, Persecuted for Not Renouncing It

Ms. Chai had two daughters and a son. Both of her daughters, however, died of illnesses, one at the age of 9 and the other when she was 12. She was in deep despair and lost all hope.

After she was introduced to Falun Gong in March 1997, she was drawn to the spiritual teachings, and her despair gradually faded away. Her husband was delighted to see she was able to smile from the bottom of her heart again.

Just as she was rebuilding her life, the communist regime launched a nationwide campaign aimed to eradicate Falun Gong from China.

Because she refused to renounce her faith and continued to tell people how Falun Gong saved her life, Ms. Chai became a frequent police target. She was arrested nine times and incarcerated for a total of two years. She was subjected to all kinds of tortures, including being hung up by her wrists, shocked with electric batons, beatings, force-fed unknown drugs, and exposed to freezing temperatures.

After her husband passed away in 2007, she lived by herself and moved four times in two years because her landlords discovered she practiced Falun Gong and evicted her, for fear of being implicated in the persecution.
