(Minghui.org) Ms. Wang Minghui, a Falun Gong practitioner in Jilin Province, was recently sentenced to 7 years of imprisonment. Her family was not notified of her court hearing, nor were they provided with a copy of the verdict. They have also been denied visits with her since she was admitted to prison a few weeks ago.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a meditation system that consists of five sets of exercises and the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. After the Chinese communist party began to persecute the practice in July 1999, a large number of practitioners have been arrested, detained, and tortured.
Ms. Wang, a resident in Nong'an County, used to live in misery. “My mother was often sick and she could hardly stand up by herself. Together with irregular heartbeat and anemia, she had to struggle every day to work in the land and take care of the family,” recalled her daughter.
The torment ended after Ms. Wang picked up the practice of Falun Gong in 2008. She regained health and energy, and was sometimes more capable than her husband when working in the land. Her quick temper also changed dramatically and she became more easygoing.
Officers from Nongan Police Department and Halahai Police Station arrested her at home at 6 p.m. on October 10, 2017. They took her to the police station and confiscated a cell phone from her. Sun Fengkun, chief of the police station, and another officer Jin Yuben interrogated her at night and sent her to Weizigou Detention Center at 3 a.m. on the next day to serve an administrative detention of 15 days.
Jin and other officers took Ms. Wang to interrogation at the Nongan Police Department on October 25. They escalated her status to criminal detention and sent her to Changchun Fourth Detention Center. Officials denied her family visits and submitted the case to Nongan Procuratorate.
Ms. Wang was later sentenced to 7 years and admitted to Jilin Province Women's Prison on December 20, 2018.
