85-year-old Father Subjected to Police Brutality During Home Ransacking

September 10, 2018 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Guangdong Province, China

(Minghui.org) More than 20 armed police officers broke into the home of a Falun Gong practitioner in Guangdong Province after she refused to open the door for them. The police ransacked her home and brutalized her 85-year-old father who attempted to stop them from looting their home.

Upon entering Ms. Lin Yanmei's house on August 29, 2018, the police began to look for Falun Gong-related materials and valuable items. They confiscated her computers, printers, Falun Gong books, and more than 20,000 yuan in cash printed with Falun Gong-related messages (with strict information censorship in China, Falun Gong practitioners resort to creative ways to counter the government's persecution and slander).

When Ms. Lin's father confronted the police for the reckless ransacking, they grabbed his arms so forcefully that they tore his skin and made his arms bleed. Lu Shanghui, head of the Domestic Security Division, kicked open the door of Mr. Lin's room and took the man's pension savings.

The police then brought Ms. Lin Yanmei, her nephew Mr. Wu Zhaoqi who'd come over for lunch, and another Falun Gong practitioner, Ms. Gan Huiling, to the police station.

Ms. Lin's sister and Mr. Wu's mother, Ms. Lin Lizhen hired a lawyer to represent her sister and son right after the arrests, only to be arrested herself two days later on August 31.

The three are currently detained at the Maoming City No. 1 Detention Center and Ms. Gan is detained at the Dianbai District No. 2 Detention Center.

Saddened by the arrests of his two daughters and grandson, which also happened around his birthday, the elderly man was unable to eat for a few days. He is now being cared for by Ms. Lin Yanmei's daughter.

Plainclothes officers are still monitoring the family's daily activities outside their home.
