70-Year-Old Woman Locked in Iron Cage for Refusing to Renounce Falun Gong

May 07, 2018 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Jilin Province, China

(Minghui.org) A senior citizen from Fengman District in Jilin Province has endured a harrowing experience of arrest, police interrogation and harassment for upholding her belief in Falun Dafa, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist authorities. Ms. Rong Tiewen, 70, was arrested by officers from the Jiangnan Police Station on the evening of October 6, 2017, while putting up a Falun Dafa banner. She was taken to the police station before being transferred to a detention center.

Ms. Rong's home was ransacked and all her Falun Dafa-related books and materials were confiscated.

She was released on bail and fined 5,000 yuan on November 7, 2017.

Gao Jiwei from the Fengman District Prosecutor's Office called Ms. Rong on March 27, 2018, and instructed her to go to the Procuratorate to renew her bail documents. Upon arrival, she was told that she would need to go to the Fengman District Court to have the documents renewed.

When Ms. Rong went to the courthouse on April 20, 2018, she was arrested after refusing to renounce Falun Dafa. Officer Zhao forcibly shoved her into an iron cage. Ms. Rong exclaimed, “It is not wrong to follow Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance to be a good person.”

Court personnel attempted to get Ms. Rong's son to persuade her to sign the guarantee statement to stop practicing Dafa, but she refused.

Ms. Rong was held in the cage for almost the entire day. Court officers took her to the Jiangnan Police Station in the evening where she was forced to get her picture taken and be fingerprinted. Then they took her to the Jilin City Detention Center, but the center refused to admit her.

Ms. Rong was eventually taken back to the courthouse where she was told to sign a renewed bail document that contained a paragraph defaming Falun Dafa. Ms. Rong refused to sign, so the court staff took out a blank sheet of paper for her to sign instead.
