Three Years of Torture Has All But Killed Mr. Ma Fujian

May 05, 2018 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Shandong Province, China

(Minghui.org) Mr. Ma Fujian is now in critical condition after being brutally tortured for three years in prison.

Mr. Ma, a Falun Gong practitioner from Huantai County, Shandong Province, is 46 years old. He was first arrested on May 1, 2015, by officers from Guoli Town Police Station for talking about Falun Gong.

After arresting him, the police notified domestic security captain Pang Yunfen of the Huantai County Police Department. When Pang arrived at the station, he slapped Mr. Ma across the face and beat him. Mr. Ma was left dizzy and bleeding while Pang and another officer went to his home and ransacked it. Pang found 500 yuan in a bag and slipped it into his pocket, claiming that it was for his workplace.

The next day, the police took Mr. Ma to Huantai Detention Center, where he was tied to a death bed from May 2 to May 5, during which time he was not given anything to eat. They called his wife to the detention center and tricked her into handing over 2,000 yuan.

Mr. Ma was released on July 10, 2015, to receive medical care for a health condition. He was arrested again on September 15, but his wife was not notified by the court until 4 p.m. on the day of his trial. He was sentenced to four years in prison and taken to Huantai County Detention Center.

When Mr. Ma went on a hunger strike back in prison, he was so severely mistreated that he was near death. To avoid being held responsible for Mr. Ma's condition, detention center authorities had him rushed to Shandong Prison on September 30, 2015. Prison staff called his wife, telling her that his life was in peril.

His wife and his brother went to visit him in the prison hospital on October 12, 2015, but only his wife was permitted to see him. Even then, she was only permitted to see him from a distance for five minutes and was then told to leave.

When his brother was able to visit him again in March 2016, Mr. Ma was emaciated and nearly beyond recognition. At 5 feet, 7 inches tall, he weighed only about 70 pounds. His eye sockets were sunken, and the nurses that tended to him could hardly find his veins to take blood or administer fluids.

His 81-year-old mother traveled from Shaanxi to Shandong by train to visit him in April 2016. She waited outside the prison in vain, hoping to see him and bring him home.

His brother saw him again in December 2016. At that point, Mr. Ma looked like a skeleton and couldn’t open his eyes. He had an IV in his arm and a feeding tube in his nostrils. His toes and feet were visibly injured.
