(Minghui.org) Mr. Wang Chunjing was sentenced to five years in prison for refusing to renounce Falun Gong. His case has been registered at the Weifang City Intermediate Court. Mr. Wang has appealed the conviction. He Dayong is the judge.

Mr. Wang, 66, lives in Lijiahedong Village, Hou Town, Shouguang City. He was arrested around 2:00 p.m. on September 11, 2017, just as he returned home. He is now held at the Shouguang City Detention Center.

His wife, Ms. Li Shumei, who was seized at home only hours earlier, was sent to the Weifang Detention Center but released shortly afterwards when she failed the required medical examination.

Prosecutor Cao Weidong filed an indictment against Mr. Wang, and judge Dong Fengli tried him in mid-January 2018 without informing his wife. It is unclear when Dong issued the guilty verdict against Mr. Wang.

Past Persecution

Mr. Wang Chunjing and Ms. Li Shumei were arrested in November 2010 and incarcerated in a brainwashing facility. They were forced to sit on iron chairs for eight days during extended police interrogations.

The police later attempted to extort several thousand yuan from the couple's family, but the family members refused to comply.

Several days following their release from the brainwashing facility, Ms. Li was sent to the Wangcun Women's Forced Labor Camp and Mr. Wang to the Zhangqiu Men's Forced Labor Camp.

Labor camp officials refused to accept Mr. Wang after he failed the physical exam. Ms. Li was given a one-year forced labor term.
