The Benefits of Falun Gong (Part 3): Academics

March 07, 2018 |   By Zheng Xin

(Minghui.org) When Falun Gong was banned in China in 1999, tens of millions of practitioners from all walks of life were practicing it. In this article, we highlight the stories of two professors and how their health improved, their careers excelled, and the benefits that others received from their practicing it.

This article is continued from Part 1 and Part 2.

Family of Professor Benefits from Falun Gong

Ms. Qi Xiuzhen, former professor of the Department of English at Harbin Institute of Technology, was weakened by many illnesses from a young age. She weighed only 86 pounds, suffered physical and mental exhaustion, was diagnosed with an emotional and mental disorder, inflammation of the small intestine, bowel obstruction, and a pre-cancer gynecological disease, among other illnesses.

She did not wish to die but to enjoy improved health, so she tried different kinds of medicine over the years. She had taken over one thousand jujubes, a red fruit that grows on the hawthorn tree, to treat anemia. She tried physical exercises, as well as Taiji and various types of qigong, but all were in vain.

She started practicing Falun Gong in August 1995. Her chronic illnesses disappeared and her curved spine straightened shortly after she began to practice Falun Gong. She has been healthy since then and no longer had to resort to any medicine or any other treatments.

Reading Zhuan Falun, the main book of Falun Gong, made her aware of the importance of following the Falun Gong principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. This helped her to understand how to be a good person, to be selfless and always consider the needs of others first.

She worked hard, was a good teacher, and trained her students well. She helped students to think, do independent analysis, and taught them how to differentiate between kindness and evilness, as well as right and wrong.

Her family also benefited from her practicing Falun Gong. Her husband escaped three disasters. He was not hurt when falling down from a great height, and another time when falling into a deep hole.

In the third incident, an electric chainsaw fell apart while running, and the broken pieces flew in all directions, but he was not hurt.

He understood that he was not hurt because his wife practices Falun Gong, as family members of Falun Gong practitioners benefit also from this cultivation practice.

Ph.D. Admired by Peers, Colleagues and Students

Mr. Zou Xiangyang is a Changchun Institute of Technology teacher, with a Ph.D. from the Harbin Institute of Technology.

He was born in 1962 and has eight brothers and sisters. His father died when he was three-years-old. He suffered from a hereditary heart disease. His father and second brother died from heart disease at the age of 42 and 49, respectively.

He was of a weak constitution and had illnesses because of a poor diet and lacked proper nutrition. He often caught a cold and had a fever as he suffered from physical and mental exhaustion, and was diagnosed with inflammation of the small intestines.

He earned a Master's degree from the Changchun Institute of Technology in 1992. He was invited to get a Ph.D. but due to poor health, he accepted a teaching position at Changchun Architectural College, instead of continuing his studies.

He was busy with preparing teaching materials and taking care of his child. Thus, he felt under constant pressure, and sometimes his heartbeat was affected. He suffered symptoms of his illnesses and did not get enough sleep. Physical exercises and medical treatments were in vain.

He then came across Falun Gong in September 1995. Within one month of stepping into the practice, all his illnesses disappeared.

His health had improved, as he followed the Falun Gong principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. He was able to do well in his research and as a teacher. His class scored number one in his school in the final exam in 1995.

He was accepted into a Ph.D. program at Harbin Architectural University, in December 1995 and graduated in 2000 with a Ph.D. He was the first teacher who went for a Ph.D. at Changchun Architectural College.

Although his degree would have allowed him to find a better job at another university, he took a position at the Changchun Architectural College, which merged with another college into the Changchun Institute of Technology. This merger resulted in the need for higher degrees, especially a Ph.D's.

He took personal interest lightly and thus he returned to Changchun and joined the institute as a teacher and researcher. He did well in his research, completed two projects, one at the institute level and another at the provincial level. He also published a series of papers.

He helped other faculty members in their research projects and teaching assignments. In addition, he guided other students of faculty when they were involved in various competitions and doing innovative projects.

Because he practiced Falun Gong, he became open-minded, as taught by the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. He was admired by his students, colleagues and supervisors.

Background

Falun Gong was first taught to the public in 1992. Nearly 100 million people across China were soon practicing it after experiencing improvements in their health and character. Jiang Zemin, former head of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), perceived the spiritual discipline's growing popularity as a threat to the CCP's atheistic ideology and issued an order to ban Falun Gong on July 20, 1999.

Minghui.org has confirmed the deaths of thousands of Falun Gong practitioners in the persecution over the past 18 years; the actual number is suspected to be much higher. More have been imprisoned and tortured for their faith. Evidence shows that the CCP harvests organs from detained practitioners, who are killed in the process, to supply the organ transplant industry.

Under Jiang's personal direction, the CCP established the 610 Office, an extralegal security organization with the power to override the police and judicial systems and whose sole function is to carry out the persecution of Falun Gong.
