83-Year-Old Woman Arrested for Seeking Daughter’s Release

March 25, 2018 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Hubei Province, China

(Minghui.org) A Wuhan City resident was arrested on October 8, 2017, for talking to people about Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime. Her mother was arrested five months later for seeking her release.

Ms. Huang Yufeng’s case now rests with the Hanyang District Procuratorate. Her 83-year-old mother, Ms. Peng, visited the local police station and the procuratorate many times to seek her release, but to no avail.

Ms. Peng went to the First Detention Center in Wuhan City on March 22, 2018, to deliver a letter to the detention center director. She wrote in the letter that no law in China criminalizes Falun Gong and that her daughter should never have been arrested for exercising her constitutional right to freedom of belief.

A guard snatched Ms. Peng’s letter out of her hand, while three other guards removed her from the lobby to the courtyard. A fifth guard took pictures of her.

Several more guards came out to interrogate Ms. Peng. One of them asked how she came up with the letter and threatened to take her to the local police station.

Another guard was heard calling his supervisor, saying that Ms. Peng was pretty old and didn’t appear to be in good health. His supervisor refused to allow Ms. Peng to be released.

Four police officers arrived to manhandle Ms. Peng into their cruiser. It is unclear where they took her.
