With Both Parents Detained for Their Faith, Mentally Disabled Daughter Faces Even More Challenges

March 11, 2018 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Liaoning Province, China

(Minghui.org) Mr. Li Kuan received a phone call from a judge surnamed Jin on March 7, 2018, asking him to report to the local Ganjingzi Court. He went and has since been held in custody.

The Dalian City resident’s latest arrest came on the heels of his earlier arrest on June 28, 2016, when his wife, Ms. Zhong Shujuan, and their daughter, Ms. Li Liuxi, were also seized by police.

Ms. Zhong remains detained since her arrest. Though her husband and daughter were released hours later, the local police kept close tabs on them. Mr. Li was summoned to the local court by the same judge for the first time in early February 2018. He was free to return home that time, but Judge Jin eventually ordered him re-arrested a month later.

Mr. Li and Ms. Zhong were targeted because they refuse to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime. Ms. Zhong, in particular, has been repeatedly arrested since the persecution began in 1999. She appeared in court in April 2017 following her latest arrest in 2016, and she is still awaiting a verdict.

With both parents detained, Ms. Li has to rely on a neighbor to care for her. Once a typical college student, she developed a mental disorder after she was repeatedly pressured by the authorities to give up her belief in Falun Gong. She gradually lost her ability to take care of herself, and her health quickly declined after her father’s latest arrest.
