Woman Rushed to ER Midway Through Trial, Convicted Weeks Later

February 08, 2018 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Hubei Province, China

(Minghui.org) A woman in Wuhan City fainted in the middle of her trial and was rushed to a local hospital. The court hearing continued for her two co-defendants, who together with her were convicted weeks later.

Ms. Shi Yingxia was home on July 19, 2016 when a group of agents from Qingshan District Police Station broke in and arrested her. They claimed that she “participated in some Falun Gong activities.” Only an hour earlier, police from Wuchang District Police Station, had arrested Mr. Wang Jijun at home using the same excuse. Mr. Zhong Changkui was also seized on the same day for the same reason.

Falun Gong is a mind-body practice that is being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.

Ms. Shi became gravely ill while in detention and was released on bail three months later. She was taken back into custody in April 2017 before she was able to make a full recovery.

Ms. Shi, Mr. Wang, and Mr. Zhong appeared in Hongshan District Court on December 13. Their lawyers and families weren’t informed of the trial until hours before the hearing was set to start.

The defense lawyers entered a not guilty plea for them, as no law in China criminalizes Falun Gong.

Ms. Shi, who was still very weak, suddenly passed out and was rushed to ER. The presiding judge kept the hearing going with Mr. Wang and Mr. Zhong.

It was learned recently that Ms. Shi and Mr. Wang have each been sentenced to 5 years and Mr. Zhong 4 years. They are now appealing their prison sentences.
