Woman Very Ill from Hunger Strike After Six Years of Incarceration

February 05, 2018 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Sichuan Province, China

(Minghui.org) The authorities kidnapped Ms. Zhong Junfang of Leshan City in August 2011 for her belief and later sentenced her to 8.5 years in prison. Ms. Zhong is a practitioner of Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Zhong Junfang is currently imprisoned in Longquan Women’s Prison. Her family have had a hard time visiting her. They have to travel hundreds of miles just to get to the prison and each time, the authorities only allow one of them to see her.

One day in December 2017, in an unusual move, the prison called her family and told them to come to the prison to see her. Her brothers rushed to the prison, only to see their sister being carried out by two staff persons. She’s lost a tremendous amount of weight due to a hunger strike to protest the inhuman persecution. She'd developed hypertension and had a chronic nosebleed.

Her brothers asked the prison to immediately release Ms. Zhong so she could seek medical attention. The authorities demanded a doctor’s diagnosis and said, “She’s still breathing, so we can’t just release her.”

Over the course of the 18-year persecution, Ms. Zhong has been tortured in a forced labor camp for two years and imprisoned twice for a total of seven years. With the latest sentence, she will have been incarcerated over 17 years for upholding her belief.
