Looking Inward is a Cultivator’s Magical Tool

February 10, 2018 |   By a Falun Dafa practitioner in Shandong Province, China

(Minghui.org) Falun Dafa has transformed me from someone with a strong ego to someone who thinks of others’ needs first and has gained people's respect. I began practicing Falun Dafa in early 1999.

Studying the Dafa teachings helped me realize that a practitioner has to eliminate attachments. Looking inward is the key–it is a practitioner's magical tool. Only by looking inward can we walk our paths well and ensure that we are not misled by illusions in this world.

Husband Becomes Supportive of Dafa

My family environment lacked kindness and happiness. Neither my husband nor my son practiced Dafa. After the Communist Party started its persecution of Dafa in July 1999, especially after I was illegally arrested, my husband turned from not paying attention to what I chose to do to being strongly against me practicing Falun Dafa or telling others about the persecution.

After studying Master's article “Pacify the External by Cultivating the Internal” from Essentials for Further Advancement, I came to understand that a practitioner should emphasize virtue and practice kindness; only then will one reach inner peace and have one's environment become harmonized.

Although my husband's attitude appeared to come about because of external pressure, the real cause was my own issues. If my xinxing could be aligned with Dafa, then my righteous field could change him.

After I realized this, I did not talk to him about the issues but instead tried to care more about him and understand him. When he was in a bad mood and said something to hurt my feelings, I looked inward. I remained very calm and still treated him with kindness.

My husband's attitude changed completely, and he now supports me and Falun Dafa. When other practitioners come to my home, he treats them nicely. He also helps with household chores so that I can go out and talk to people about Dafa and the persecution.

Changing Peoples' Hearts and Minds

My son also changed from holding a negative attitude toward Dafa to supporting me. He had formed a negative opinion of Dafa after listening to the slander of Dafa in the Chinese Communist Party's media.

After looking within and changing my behavior, he became very supportive and no longer tried to stop me from practicing Dafa. He said to his father, “Dad, Dafa makes Mom a good person who really thinks of others first.”

He moved overseas and asked me to come and help take care of my granddaughter. His wife knew that I am a practitioner but did not want to hear me talk about Dafa. I maintained a practitioner's demeanor to change her. When I talked to her, I used different examples and approached aspects of Dafa from various perspectives. My compassion moved my daughter-in-law, and she now treats me respectfully.

When I was ready to return home, she asked me to stay with them. I could not stay, but she told her daughter that when they visit me in China, they would also study Falun Dafa.
