Every practitioner of Falun Gong (also known as Falun Dafa) has benefited physically and mentally from the self-cultivation practice. Those who practice it enjoy good health and a positive outlook.
Master Li Hongzhi, the founder of the practice, said,
“From the start, my teaching has been motivated by a sense of responsibility toward the world and to those who want to learn our practice. People have been very receptive to it, and the practice has had a widely positive impact.” (The First Talk, Zhuan Falun)
The profiles below look at people whose lives changed for the better after they started to practice Falun Dafa. We hope they help to demystify the practice and benefit the reader.
Although Mr. Liu Yongwang was born into a poor family, he was an outstanding student. After he graduated from college, he worked for a foreign company in Beijing and soon became a section manager and a chief engineer.
When Mr. Liu was younger, he had two wishes. First, he wanted to find real science that could never be turned into a destructive tool and only bring good to humankind. He had realized that modern science wasn’t scientific enough. It seemed to always lead to harmful side effects. A prime example was Alfred Nobel, who invented dynamite to help build roads. That technology was then used to create deadly weapons.
Second, he wanted to find a standard that could discern good people from bad. He wanted to be a good person, but had a hard time knowing what constituted a “good man” from observing the chaotic standards in modern society.
In a park near where he lived, he noticed people practicing Falun Gong every morning. He found the book Falun Gong and read it. Impressed that it was free to learn, he realized that the practice did not guarantee any healing power unless one became a good person by following the teachings and improving one’s character. He knew that he had finally found the real science that “could never be turned into a destructive tool and only bring goodness to humankind.”
The first time he picked up the book Zhuan Falun, he read, “The Sole Measure of Goodness: Zhen, Shan, Ren” (First Talk, Zhuan Falun). He was in shock and knew that he’d found the “standard to tell good people from bad.” The more he practiced, the more he felt that Falun Dafa was extraordinary and a real science.
He gradually gave up his attachments to profit and fame. He was considerate of everyone and often shared his knowledge and experiences with his engineers. In his spare time he taught his coworkers how to use different professional software. His was trusted and respected for his honesty and devotion.
Mr. Liu Hui from Baoding City, Hebei Province, was a sickly child. To build himself up, he tried martial arts and qigong when he was in high school. As he grew older, he wondered if life was no more than just becoming old and dying. He wanted to know if life had a purpose and if those who hurt and bullied others ever faced consequences.
In 1994 he noticed a picture of a qigong master on the cover of a qigong magazine. He saw a halo around the person’s head as he sat with his legs double-crossed. He read the magazine and learned that he was the founder of Falun Gong, Mr. Li Hongzhi. Somehow he knew that this was the enlightened Master he was looking for. He followed the illustrations in the magazine to try to learn the exercises and felt strong energy.
He later learned that one of his relatives had attended Master Li Hongzhi’s classes. He rushed to her home, where she showed him how to do the exercises correctly. She also gave him a recording of Master’s lectures in Jinan City.
Mr. Liu listened to the lectures day and night, and realized that all his questions—Why do people come to this world, get old, get sick, and die? Where do people come from and where do they go after death? What is the purpose of everything?—had been answered.
Mr. Li became a firm believer in Falun Dafa. He was diligent about abiding by the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance both at work and at home. He worked hard and was eager to learn, but maintained a humble attitude. He was able to take care of his coworkers and win everyone’s approval and trust. Out of the 40-plus people in his group, he was the only one sent to Japan to learn the latest work-related technology.
After the persecution of Falun Gong started in 1999, Mr. Liu refused to give up his faith. He was arrested five times and incarcerated. Despite the difficult times, Mr. Liu remained hardworking and trustworthy at work and was voted “Outstanding Employee” several times.
Ms. Du Hexian from Xiong County, Hebei Province, lost her mother when she was 17. Her mother killed herself after fighting with her father. Things were tough at home for her and her brother and sister, and Ms. Du dropped out of school.
Her father re-married, and he and her stepmother fought constantly. They were also both in bad health. Having two sick parents who fought all the time created a serious financial burden and put tremendous mental strain on the three siblings.
They thought about killing themselves whenever things got difficult. Ms. Du’s younger sister attempted to commit suicide three times when she wasn't able to get into college. Ms. Du worried about her family constantly.
Ms. Du got married when she was 21, but she still went home often to see her sister and brother. Eventually her husband stopped coming home at night and they fought frequently. She thought of suicide at times, but she never went through with it because of her young child.
In 1996 Ms. Du’s father and stepmother became Falun Gong practitioners. They became considerate and stopped fighting and their health improved enormously. After reading the Falun Dafa books, Ms. Du's sister realized that committing suicide is wrong and stopped thinking about it. She became confident and cheerful. Seeing the miraculous changes in her family members, Ms. Du became a practitioner as well. She learned how to be tolerant when her husband got angry and swore. Her husband eventually stopped swearing at her.
Ms. Du’s brother used to have patches of red, scaly skin. It started on his arms when he was about 15 and spread to his legs. When he brought it up to his parents, they were busy fighting and ignored him. He never got treated and his self-esteem suffered. He often contemplated killing himself. After he started to practice Falun Gong, the skin condition went away.
When her brother told her about this, Ms. Du remembered that he always wore long pants no matter how hot it was. When she laughed at him, he never replied. She was grateful that her brother had learned Falun Dafa and recovered. If not, he might have done something that she would never forgive herself for.
Falun Dafa saved this broken family, and now they are leading healthy and happy lives.

Falun Gong was introduced to the public by Mr. Li Hongzhi in 1992. Living by the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and doing the five easy-to-learn exercises improve one's physical health and moral standards. About 100 million people were practicing Falun Gong before the Chinese Communist Party suppressed it in 1999.
Over 19 years into the persecution, rather than being eliminated by the Party, Falun Gong flourishes in more than 100 countries. The teachings of Falun Gong have been translated into 39 languages. Groups of people doing the Falun Gong exercises can be seen in almost all major countries throughout the world.
