(Minghui.org) An ethnic Korean woman in Huichun City is facing trial for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.
Ms. Li Chunwan was arrested at home on August 13, 2018, and taken straight to the local procuratorate, where she was told that the police was preparing to have her indicted for her faith in Falun Gong.
Although she was soon released on bail, officers continued to harass her at home. They took her back into custody on August 29, as soon as she returned home from picking up her grandson from kindergarten.
The police first took her to the procuratorate and then to the court, where she was read the indictment against her and asked whether she would hire a lawyer to represent her. She refused to sign the indictment notice.
A few days later, the police called her son and threatened to sentence her to prison.
This is not the first time that Ms. Li, in her 70s, has been persecuted for practicing Falun Gong. Her latest arrest was preceded by three prior arrests, in 2006, 2009, and 2016, respectively. Her repeated arrests and detention, as well as the ransacking of her home by police, caused tremendous stress for her 92-year-old mother, who relied on her care.
