Two Falun Gong Practitioners in Changchun City Tried Remotely

October 06, 2018 |   By a Dafa practitioner in China

(Minghui.org) Two Falun Gong practitioners in Changchun City were recently tried remotely. The whole trial was a sham as the court did not notify the practitioners' family or allow their lawyer to be present. No legal proceedings were followed.

Ms. Yang Xianghua was tried in June 2018 by the Luuyuan District Court. The family was not notified of her trial. The trial lasted only four minutes. Ms. Yang did not even know the judge's name. She was sentenced to five years in prison and was taken to the notorious Ward No. 8 of Jilin Women's Prison.

Ms. Shao Xiuyan was tried by the Kuancheng District Court in Changchun City on August 29, 2018, in the No. 2 Detention Center. The trial lasted less than 10 minutes.

According to Chinese law, a trial can only be done remotely if the defendant has requested it. The court needs to ensure that the remote trial does not jeopardize the defendant's right to justice.
