Dr. Kong Jie Arrested at a Beijing Train Station for Practicing Falun Gong

January 05, 2018 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Beijing, China

(Minghui.org) Dr. Kong Jie was arrested at the Beijing West Train Station on August 31, 2017, because she was a Falun Gong practitioner. She and her husband were on their way to care for her elderly mother in Gansu Province.

Her identification card had identified her as being a Falun Gong practitioner. She was detained and body searched. Officers confiscated the book Zhuan Falun, a notebook computer, a portable hard drive, and some paper currency bills with Falun Gong information written on them. The police then went to her home, ransacked the place, and confiscated a hard drive, DVDs, and her cell phone.

Dr. Kong was taken to the Fengtai Police Department the next day, and an arrest warrant was issued on October 1. Her case was filed with the Procuratorate on November 9 and submitted to the Fengtai District Court. She is being held at the Fengtai Detention Center.

Dr. Kong, 62, has a Ph.D. degree, and is a former employee of the Biology Department at Xibei Normal University. Because she practices Falun Gong, she was assigned to work in the data center, which had nothing to do with her professional training. She and her husband later moved to Beijing, where she found a job in her field. Her former employer refused to help with the transfer process however, so she could not start the new job. Then, in 2013, Xibei Normal University dismissed Dr. Kong for no valid reason. She has been jobless ever since.

Dr. Kong had previously been arrested and sentenced to three years in prison for practicing Falun Gong in 2005. She was incarcerated in a forced labor camp for two and a half years in 2010. She was arrested again in 2016, and the police broke her arm during the arrest. She was released on bail.

During her imprisonment and detention in the forced labor camp, she was verbally abused, beaten, tortured, and forced to endure brainwashing.
