(Minghui.org) Ms. Wang Chunying, 52, from Yuzhou City, Henan Province, was sentenced to three years in prison in the Yuzhou City Court for filing a lawsuit in 2015. The lawsuit against Jiang Zemin was submitted to the Supreme Procuratorate on May 31, 2017. Jiang, who initiated the persecution of Falun Gong, is the former head of the communist regime.

Ms. Wang appealed, and her case was transferred to the Xuchang City Intermediate Court nearly two months ago.

According to Ms. Wang’s attorney, presiding judge Cha Fengling has refused to order a new trial.

Ms. Wang started practicing Falun Gong in 1998. She felt the practice was beneficial and that it helped people improve themselves.

Ms. Wang lives in Shundian Township in Yuzhou City, an area notorious for counterfeit cigarettes. Many local women make a decent living producing these cigarettes. Ms. Wang herself was an experienced cigarette maker, yet after practicing Falun Gong, she quit her job and returned home. She thought that such a job did not meet the requirements of Falun Gong. Some fellow villagers considered her foolish because the job provided easy money.

The Chinese Communist Party then launched the nationwide persecution of Falun Gong in July 1999. They mobilized all the state media to slander and smear Falun Gong, which included inciting hatred of the practice.

Ms. Wang was placed under criminal detention for telling villagers the truth about Falun Gong. She was given a three-year prison term in 2001 and viciously beaten by the guards. Her face was so swollen she could barely open her eyes.

Ms. Wang's family now has difficulty making ends meet. Her husband suffers from hemiplegia and requires support with daily care. Her elderly in-laws have to tend to their disabled son, although they are over 80 years old.
