Woman Detained as Police Try to Fill Quota to Arrest Good People

July 01, 2017 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Liaoning Province

(Minghui.org) A 67-year-old woman in Fushun City was arrested on June 2, 2017 for talking to people about Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.

When Ms. Liu Yun’s daughter requested her release, Wei Zhenxing, the arresting officer from Fushun Domestic Security Office, said, “We had a quota to arrest several good people [referring to Falun Gong practitioners] that day. We saw your mother talking to several folks. They ran away as we approached, and it just felt right to seize your mother.”

He continued, “We’ve submitted your mother’s case to higher-ups. Go talk to them! And I tell you that it’s no use to hire a lawyer to defend Her!”

Ms. Liu’s daughter and elderly mother, nearly 90 years old, also talked to Wang Xiangyang, a captain at Shuncheng Police Department, almost every day since June 12. Wang also said only higher-ups had authority over Ms. Liu’s case and asked them to not bother him again. He threatened to arrest Ms. Liu’s daughter if she showed up again.

Ms. Liu was issued a formal arrest warrant on June 23. It’s unknown whether her lawyer got a chance to meet with her yet.
