Harvard Graduate Recounts Injections with Unknown Drugs and Other Abuse in Chinese Prison

June 17, 2017 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Shanghai

(Minghui.org) Ms. Chen Ping, who holds a Master’s degree from Harvard University, was arrested in September 2013 because she practices Falun Gong. She was later sentenced to three years and three months in prison. While she was incarcerated, she was injected with unknown drugs, force-fed, and subjected to brainwashing.

Ms. Chen’s latest arrest came just 14 months after her prior arrest in July 2012, also for her faith. Her husband was pressured to divorce her.

After her release, Ms. Chen recounted what she had endured.

Pressured to Give up My Belief

After I was arrested at my home in Shanghai in September, 2013, I was first detained in the Xuhui District Detention Center in Shanghai, and then taken to the Shanghai Women's Prison on November 25, 2013.

Right after I was admitted, I was put in solitary confinement. Three inmates were ordered to monitor me. When I tried to do the Falun Gong exercises every day, the inmates sat on top of me. They later tied my hands to my waist with a belt for two weeks.

Since I refused to renounce Falun Gong, I was not allowed to purchase personal items like toilet paper, soap, toothpaste, etc. I did not brush my teeth for two months.

I was transferred to another cell in March 2015. Five inmates stayed with me and monitored my every move. They kept the lights on all night and made all kinds of noise to keep me up.

A female prison guard tried to persuade me to give up my belief by befriending me. She talked about her own life, and then tried to show me why I should give up the practice. I was not deceived and refused to listen to her.

Drug Injections and Force Feeding

In August 2015, even though I was fine, I was sent to the prison hospital because I supposedly had a high temperature. I was tied to the bed and given IV fluids. I had a rash all over my body because I hadn’t been allowed to bathe for so long. I was taken back to the prison after seven weeks of torture.

I noticed that my drinking water was drugged on November 3, 2015. My stomach burned and I had diarrhea twice right after drinking. I was sent to the prison hospital again and tied to the bed for 35 days.

I began a hunger strike in February 25, 2016, and endured for three and a half months. I was force-fed during that time and lost one-third of my weight. I weighed only about 110 pounds by the end. (I am 5'7'.) My legs were swollen.

Once, I was not allowed to go to the restroom for two days and wet my pants.

When I refused to eat or drink anything drugged, the inmates force-fed me three to five times a day. My mouth bled profusely each time, and my clothes got all wet. But I was forced to sit all day on a small stool in my wet clothes.

Brainwashing

In 2016, other imprisoned practitioners and I were forced to attend brainwashing sessions. We were made to watch the videos or listen to audios that defamed Dafa from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. or later.

I protested by standing up all day even though my legs became swollen. Once the guards and inmates, five of them, pushed me into a chair and pinned me down.

I spent 24 months in prison before being released.
