(Minghui.org) I own a textile shop. In doing business, I remember Master's teaching and follow the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.
A lady came to my shop and bought a set of bed sheets. Two weeks later, her mother-in-law came to my shop with the bed sheets and said, “My daughter-in-law bought these here. It seems that the quality is not good and the fabric easily ripped. We want to exchange them for another set of sheets.”
I looked at the sheet and found it was torn. But the quality of the cloth was good. According to the shop policy, if an item is used, it cannot be exchanged. However, I thought she would lose money if I did not give her a new set of sheets.
Master said, “If you are always compassionate and friendly to others, if you always consider other people when you do things, and whenever you have issues with other people you first think about whether they can take it or whether it will cause them harm, then you won’t have any problem.” (from “The Fourth Talk” in Zhuan Falun)
I said, “It's possible that I did not check to make sure they were not torn when your daughter-in-law bought them. No problem, I will exchange them for you.” She thanked me and said, “I'm giving you a hard time. We thought that since we used them we would have to re-sew them. I did not expect that you would really agree to exchange them for us. My daughter-in-law is not at home. I will ask her to come to select new ones. Thank you very much.” She left in a hurry.
Right after the lady left, I found an iPhone on the counter. I didn't know who it belonged to, so I put it aside and waited for the customer to come back and pick it up. When the phone rang I answered it since I thought the owner was calling. It was the person who owned the phone's daughter. I told her, “Tell your mom that her phone is in my shop and that she can pick it up.” She expressed her appreciation.
The lady who came to ask to exchange the bed sheets that morning came back to pick up her phone. She smiled and said, “I lost my phone. Thank you for telling my daughter to ask me to pick it up.” I said, “I am a Falun Gong practitioner, so I would never keep anything that does not belong to me.”
