(Minghui.org) One day last winter when I was at an outdoor market, I spotted a young man and his mother who seemed to be waiting for someone. I casually approached them and asked, “Do you know about the staged Tiananmen Square self-immolationand the persecution of Falun Gong?”
The mother turned to me, smiling, and nodded.
I asked her son the same question, and he also nodded and said, “Yes, I do.”
“Have you also withdrawn from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and its affiliated youth organizations?” They both said they had.
The mother then spoke up. “My son is a police officer, and he has his police warrant card with him.” The young man looked at me and said, “But you are safe to leave, Ma’am.”
Another time, I saw the deputy director of the local police in a bookstore in our local shopping mall. “Are you a teacher?” I asked him.
“Why do you ask?”
“Because if you are a teacher, I'd like to tell you that there is a false, defamatory lesson in the current political textbooks being circulated in junior high schools. You know, the one about the Self-Immolation in Tiananmen Square, which was orchestrated to slander Falun Dafa practitioners. Many teachers have now realized that this incident is blatantly false information, and they have refused to include it in their lessons. I hope you will exercise your own judgment as well.”
“You may speak to me about this, but no one else, or you risk endangering yourself,” he replied. “What are you doing? Where do you live? Do you practice Falun Gong?”
I replied, “Posters and notices for prostitution, forged certificates, illegal arms, and drugs—you see them everywhere, and yet the police don't go after the people behind them. Instead, they persecute Falun Gong practitioners, some of the kindest, most well-intentioned people in the country. How do you account for that?”
“What do you mean?” he asked.
“I hope you will make the right choice and bring yourself goodwill and blessings,” I continued.
“Yes,” he said, “I would like to be blessed. Nowadays, the CCP is so corrupt, and many members have entirely lost sight of basic moral standards.”
“You know,” I said, “that many high-ranking officials have been arrested and imprisoned for corruption, but their involvement in the persecution of Falun Gong was the ultimate reason behind their downfall. I would advise you to withdraw from the CCP to avoid being implicated like so many before you.”
“Good idea,” he agreed.
Before we parted, he reminded me, “It's okay to speak with me about Falun Gong, but you shouldn't say these things to anyone else, because they might report you to the police.”
On another occasion, I approached a middle-aged man to talk about Falun Gong. Although he seemed reluctant to start a conversation, I could sense that he was actually interested.
He asked, “Do you know what I do?”
“You look like a police officer,” I answered.
“I am worried that, if we talk, I'll be tempted to arrest you and take you to the police station.”
I smiled. “You are a good person. You wouldn't arrest another good person.”
“I know,” he said with a sigh. “We all know. But, see, this is my job. In order to feed my family, I have to do my job.”
“It's the individuals working for the legal system that are trapped when it comes to the persecution of Falun Dafa,” I told him. “You know you are being forced to persecute innocent people, but you are also responsible for the consequences of your actions. Do yourself a favor and distance yourself from this irrational persecution.”
After discussing these issues, he agreed to let me help him withdraw from the CCP and its affiliated organizations. As he thanked me, I could tell he was relieved.
