Compassion Must Be Our Motive When Talking to People about Falun Dafa

March 03, 2017 |   By a practitioner in China

(Minghui.org) Two recent incidents made me realize that I needed to take a hard look at my cultivation. One day, police officers came to harass me; another time someone turned me into the police after I talked to them about Falun Dafa. When I examined myself, I saw that I lacked compassion, but instead I focused on doing things.

Master has talked about saving people in many lectures. So I made this my priority and set a goal to distribute at least 40 copies of Falun Dafa materials per day face to face. However, I gradually began focusing on finishing this, as though it were a task, rather than saving people. The minute I stepped out the door, I thought about how quickly I could do this instead of why I was doing it.

Master said,

“The Buddha School emphasizes cultivating Shan of Zhen-Shan-Ren. Because the cultivation of Shan can generate great, benevolent compassion, and when compassion develops one will find all beings suffering, the Buddha School thus develops an aspiration to offer salvation to all beings.” (Zhuan Falun)

In my understanding, offering salvation to all beings comes from one's heart. It is something from inside instead of being driven by external factors. But that was not my situation. I handed out materials to fulfill the requirements for being a Dafa disciple. The truth is, I was afraid that I would not be considered a genuine disciple.

When I realized this I knew that I needed to identify what was causing it. First, I had to let go of selfishness and really be considerate of others. I needed to focus more on other practitioners' good points rather than their shortcomings. Also, I still haven't eliminated attachments such as zealotry, jealousy, and so on. I need to remind myself what true compassion is.
