Tianjin Woman Sentenced for Her Faith Being Severely Abused in Prison

February 25, 2017 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Tianjin

(Minghui.org) A 44-year-old woman sentenced for her faith has been severely abused since her admission to Tianjin Women’s Prison.

Ms. Chen Ruiqin, a Ji County, Tianjin resident, was arrested on May 16, 2014 for distributing materials exposing the Chinese communist regime’s persecution of Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline based on the principle of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. The Ji County court sentenced her to 4.5 years in 2015.

The prison guards have been using various means to try to force Ms. Chen to give up her belief in Falun Gong. The physical abuse includes:

Forcing her to stand for long periods of time without moving;

Not allowing her to use the restroom or clean herself up after she soiled her pants;

Pinching her nipples and touching her private area;

Stomping on her toes so hard that they bled profusely;

Beating her savagely and leaving bruises all over her body;

Splashing hot water into her face;

Forcing her to drink urine and eat feces.

Ms. Chen’s cellmates complained about the smell, but the guards still refused to let her use the restroom or clean herself. The cellmates had to keep the window open in the winter to let the odor out. After a period of time, the guards finally allowed Ms. Chen to rinse herself with cold water once in a while.

Psychological manipulation was also employed to try to weaken Ms. Chen’s willpower. The guards deceived her family into believing that she only wanted to practice Falun Gong, but had no interest in the family’s well-being. Her family then blamed her for causing them to live in fear all those years and asked her to renounce her faith.

Ms. Chen had a seizure at one point and was led to say that she’d give up her belief. But she recanted her statement as soon as she became clearheaded.

Ms. Chen is not the only practitioner suffering abuse at the prison, which is also keeping captive the following practitioners: Wang Wanru, Gao Tianhua, Lu Guifen, Yao Hongmei, Tang Yuehua, Wang Guiping, Shao Yun, Hao Shuyan, Zhao Yufen, Bo Jie, Chen Ruixue, Guo Baohua, Wang Shuli, and Mo Weiqiu.
