Searching for My Attachments

December 09, 2017 |   By a Falun Dafa practitioner in China

(Minghui.org) The following are examples of how I got rid of many of my attachments and eliminated them based on the Fa.

I Finally Found Them

Last year my son-in-law landed a job in another city, and he asked my daughter and me to join him. I suggested that he wait until he settled down and got used to the job first, but he insisted that the job was fine and that we should go with him.

In only a few days, he started to complain about his job. Each time he did, I would complain back.

“I told you that we should have waited for you to get used to the job before we came,” I'd say.

After a while my daughter, also a practitioner, told me that I shouldn’t keep complaining. Later I calmed down and started to search within. I found what was getting me: my attachment to arrogance.

I sent righteous thoughts to eliminate it; after that, I felt much more relaxed and comfortable with the situation. I later came across situations like this, I was able to handle them calmly with tolerance and kindness.

Validating the Fa through Suffering

The police arrested me in November of 2013 while I was handing out flyers. They also found a lot of Falun Gong materials in my apartment. I was told that mine was a serious case and that I would be looking at a month of detention and 3 to 7 years in prison.

At the time, it didn’t worry me. I knew that I would only walk the path that Master had arranged for me.

But I was arrested because something about me wasn’t righteous. Every day in the detention center I recited the Fa, trying to look within. I saw a lot of flaws in myself but didn’t think any particular one of them was the attachment that caused the problem.

I then told myself that, since I was in the detention center, I might as well clarify the truth to people there and send righteous thoughts to eliminate the evil. I resolved to base my every thought on the Fa and leave everything else to Master.

Eliminating Attachments and Validating the Fa

The first few days I was in the detention center, I missed my family so much that it hurt. I knew that it was a test, so I started to send righteous thoughts to eliminate the attachment. A few days later I wasn’t homesick at all.

One night I dreamed that I was in a fast elevator. A person told me that we were going up seven levels and after that we would switch to an airplane. I knew that I had improved; Master was encouraging me.

Two weeks after I was put in the detention center, a policeman told me that I would be released in two weeks. For a second, I was excited. I quickly realized that it was a test for me. I paid attention to this thought from then on and eliminated it whenever I sensed it.

The food in the detention center was pretty bad. I didn’t want to eat at all. In two weeks, I lost a significant amount of weight. When someone pointed that out to me, I knew that I should stay in the best physical condition as a practitioner and that I also needed to eliminate the attachment to tasty food. I was able to eat normally soon afterward.

A thought often emerged in my head: they found so many materials in my apartment and surely will put me in prison for years. Each time I caught this thought, I would negate it. I knew that I was doing the most righteous and magnificent thing in the universe, and I should be proud of myself for doing it.

I also reminded myself that a practitioner shouldn’t be here wasting time. At the same time, I didn’t want to be attached to wanting to get out quickly. I knew that I should leave my future to Master and focus on doing the three things well.

Clarifying the Truth Rationally and Wisely

One time a guard told me that she had heard good things about me. I took the opportunity to clarify the truth to her. She became interested in cultivation and I answered her questions.

She agreed with the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and thought that I was trustworthy. Anytime something went wrong in the ward, she would come to me first to learn what had happened.

I treated the detainees kindly and clarified the truth to everyone. I would share my warm clothes with those who didn’t bring any.

One time, a detainee told me that she really did believe that the practitioners set themselves on fire at Tiananmen before I told her otherwise. Some detainees also told me that they would find practitioners in their neighborhoods once they were released and learn the practice.

Many people got sick when the weather got cold. Over half of the detainees were taking medicine. I was the oldest one and also the healthiest. I told them about the health benefits of Falun Dafa, using myself as an example.

I showed the detainees how kind, peaceful, and honest a practitioner was. They respected me and often bought me food and daily necessities. To repay them, I helped them with their laundry and other duties.

After a month’s detention, I was released. During that month, Master helped me eliminate many of my attachments. At the same time I witnessed the sacredness and miraculousness of Dafa.

In the past 17 years of cultivation, I have wobbled like a toddler. I relied on Master’s protection for each unsteady step. Every fall I took, Master was there to encourage me and help. He cherished me even more than I did myself.
