Ms. Yu Xiuxiang and Ms. Wang Yufeng were arrested on December 14, 2016, while distributing materials exposing the Chinese communist regime's persecution of Falun Gong. Both women filed an appeal, but the local higher court upheld their conviction without holding an open hearing as required by law.
Three other practitioners were arrested together with Ms. Yu and Ms. Wang, and they were also sentenced. Ms. Guo Xiuhua, Ms. Yang Shuxian, and Ms. Shang Yanhua were each sentenced to 1 year in prison, suspended for 2 years. They also had to each pay a fine of 10,000 yuan. The local court issued the three women cell phones to monitor their whereabouts and ordered them to report to the village judicial bureau once every month.

This is not the first time that Ms. Gao has been targeted for her faith. The 52-year-old woman was twice given forced labor and once imprisoned in the past for her faith. She was fired from her job and forced to divorce her husband.
