Heilongjiang Man Tried for Suing Former Chinese Dictator

December 22, 2017 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Heilongjiang Province, China

(Minghui.org) Mr. Wang Yudong was tried by Longsha Court in Qiqihar City on December 14, 2017, for filing a criminal complaint against former Chinese Communist Party leader Jiang Zemin.

Mr. Wang was once sentenced to 10 years in prison for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline based on the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. Guards at Harbin Prison ordered inmates to beat Mr. Wang. One inmate claimed, “We’ll just issue a normal death certificate if we beat you to death!” Another inmate once removed Mr. Wang’s pants and squeezed his testicles.

Mr. Wang filed a criminal complaint against Jiang in 2015 for initiating the persecution of Falun Gong that resulted in his decade-long imprisonment. The local police began monitoring him upon learning of the complaint. They arrested him and his wife when they were visiting a friend in Qiqihar on March 21, 2017.

The couple was placed in separate rooms and brutally tortured. Mr. Wang went on a hunger strike to protest the illegal detention but was force-fed. He lost almost half of his body weight.

Mr. Wang appeared in court on December 14. His lawyer entered a not-guilty plea for him and argued that his client should not have been prosecuted for exercising his constitutional right to seek justice against Jiang. The lawyer emphasized that no law in China criminalizes Falun Gong and that the persecution of Falun Gong has been illegal from the onset.

The lawyer asked the prosecutor, “My client is a well-known chef among locals. He is also an award-winning chess arbiter. He has never done any harm to anyone in his life. How can such a good person undermine law enforcement as you alleged?”

The lawyer demanded an acquittal, and Judge Wang Yaming (no relation to Mr. Wang) adjourned the hearing without issuing a verdict.

Judge Wang had intended to hold a secret hearing at the local detention center, but Mr. Wang firmly refused. Judge Wang also told Mr. Wang’s family before the hearing at the local court not to invite Falun Gong practitioners to attend the trial. Judge Wang admitted that he had received a lot of phone calls from practitioners both inside and outside of China.

Background

In 1999, Jiang Zemin, as head of the Chinese Communist Party, overrode other Politburo standing committee members and launched the violent suppression of Falun Gong.

The persecution has led to the deaths of many Falun Gong practitioners in the past 16 years. More have been tortured for their belief and even killed for their organs. Jiang Zemin is directly responsible for the inception and continuation of the brutal persecution.

Under his personal direction, the Chinese Communist Party established an extralegal security organ, the “610 Office,” on June 10, 1999. The organization overrides police forces and the judicial system in carrying out Jiang's directive regarding Falun Gong: to ruin their reputations, cut off their financial resources, and destroy them physically.

Chinese law allows for citizens to be plaintiffs in criminal cases, and many practitioners are now exercising that right to file criminal complaints against the former dictator.

In its “registration system reform opinions,” the Supreme People's Court in China claimed that it would guarantee the registration and processing of all complaints filed. This new policy was to take effect on May 1, 2015.
