Once Imprisoned for 3 Years, Xinjiang Man Sentenced to Prison Again for His Faith

December 16, 2017 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Xinjiang Province, China

(Minghui.org) A businessman in Karamay City, Xinjiang Province, was arrested on May 30, 2017, for talking to a colleague about the Chinese communist regime’s persecution of Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline based on the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. He was sentenced to 5 years in prison five months later.

This is not the first time that Mr. He Jianghai, 53, has been targeted for his faith. He was arrested on August 13, 2003, in Shanghai, where he worked at the time. He was held inside Shanghai Second Detention Center for 13 months before being sentenced to 3 years in prison. His appeal was rejected, and he was moved to Tilanqiao Prison to serve the rest of his term.

Upon his release, he returned to Xinjiang, where he grew up. He resumed his efforts of informing the public of the illegal persecution, only to be arrested again.

Mr. He earned a Doctor of Medicine degree from Sun Yat-sen University of Medical Sciences in Guangdong Province in 1999. He had planned to continue his study of Parkinson’s disease as a postdoctoral researcher, but his then-employer refused to make his personnel file available to the postdoctoral program.

Mr. He was beyond depressed to see his hope of becoming a medical researcher crushed. Fortunately, he came across Falun Gong. He no longer felt resentful and found a job at a pharmaceutical company in Shanghai, where he worked until his arrest in 2003.
