Prison Conceals Falun Gong Practitioner’s Poor Health and Denies Family Visits

November 28, 2017 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Yunnan Province, China

(Minghui.org) Mr. Ye Baofu, a retired hospital vice president, was arrested in May 2012, along with his wife Ms. Yang and their daughter, for practicing Falun Gong.

He was given a 6-year sentence and is now in Yunnan Province #1 Prison. He suffered a stroke on September 5, 2017, but prison officials hid this fact from his family for more than two months and used all kinds of excuses to keep his family from visiting him.

Family’s Requests to Visit Repeatedly Denied

Yunnan Province #1 Prison repeatedly refused to give Ms. Yang permission to visit her husband, even though she had submitted all the required paperwork. Prison officials told her that due to security concerns, she had to wait until after the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) National Day on October 1 and the CCP's 19th National Congress, which adjourned on October 24, 2017.

After contacting the prison multiple times since September 12, 2017, Ms. Yang and their daughter were finally permitted to see Mr. Ye on November 7.

Mr. Ye Needs Immediate Medical Intervention

Mr. Ye had to be helped into the visiting room. He walked to his seat very slowly and was unable to speak clearly. It was clear that he had a problem speaking.

According to Mr. Ye, he felt extremely dizzy on September 5, 2017, and could barely move his arms and legs. He was taken to Yunnan Provincial Prison Management Bureau Hospital, and was diagnosed with brain atrophy and a cerebral embolism. He had high blood pressure and a persistent fever.

Mr. Ye has lost a tremendous amount of weight. Although his health has improved a little bit since, he is still unable to speak clearly, and his limbs are still numb.

Mr. Ye’s family has submitted an application to bail him out for medical treatment, and are anxiously waiting for the prison authorities to reply.
