Harbin Man Sentenced to 2 Years in Prison for His Faith

November 15, 2017 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Heilongjiang Province, China

(Minghui.org) More than two dozen officers suddenly showed up at Mr. Han Zhongyi’s home at around 7 a.m. on January 26, 2017. They smashed the windows and broke the door. Mr. Han was not in, so the police impounded the family car and arrested his wife, who was released that evening.

Mr. Han, a resident in Shuangcheng District, Harbin City, was targeted because the police suspected that he had hung up banners reading “Falun Dafa is good” in Pingfang District shortly before the Chinese New Year in January. He didn’t, but he does practice Falun Dafa, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.

The police kept monitoring Mr. Han after missing him at his own home. They eventually seized him at his son’s home on February 5.

Mr. Han’s wife and her sister went to Pingxin Town Police Station on February 13 to inquire about his case. The police chief said they had no say over the case, but he refused to reveal who the decision maker was.

Mr. Han’s wife returned the following day, but the officers there blocked her from going inside. They pushed her hard, causing her to have a relapse of her old health issues. Her face turned pale and her body went limp. Only then did the police stop pushing her.

She tried one more time on February 17 and was told this time to talk to Pingfang District Police Station instead. Fu Zilong, head of Pingfang District Police Station Domestic Security Office, met with her on February 20 and said that they’d let her know if there were any new developments in the case.

Mr. Han’s wife heard nothing and grew anxious. She went to talk to Fu again on March 1, and this time he said they were preparing to submit the case to the local procuratorate.

The local court never informed Mr. Han’s wife of his trial. She learned recently that her husband has been sentenced to two years and is now being held at Hulan Prison.

The Zhoujia Town Police Station, Pingfang District Police Station Domestic Security Office, and Pingxin Town Police Station are all involved in Mr. Han’s persecution.
