Eliminating My Attachments While Working with Fellow Practitioners

October 16, 2017 |   By a Falun Dafa practitioner in Heilongjiang Province, China

(Minghui.org) When practitioners were arrested in another city, we set up a team to rescue them and needed drivers to take practitioners to that city on a regular basis.

Our coordinator asked me, “Your family is in good shape financially, and you can afford to buy a car. Can you take driving lessons? It will help us save more people.”

His words moved me, and I realized that it would be much more convenient for me if I had a car. But I was 59 years old. I had received very little education and had never tried to drive a car before. Could I manage to learn? And could I pass the road test?

However, as a practitioner I knew that our Teacher, the founder of Falun Dafa, would guide me. My concerns all came from human attachments, and as Fa-rectification needed practitioners' cooperation, I decided to try it.

I experienced many obstacles during the process of learning to drive. After I passed the written test, I needed to show my ID prior to the road test. Because I practice Falun Dafa, the local police station refused to issue me an ID card, which was not the first time.

I decided to strengthen my righteous thoughts and asked for Teacher's help. My family members also sent forth righteous thoughts for me. Instead of going back to the police station, we went directly to the department that issues the ID cards. My application was processed, and finally, I received my driver's license.

Finding My Attachments

I bought a car and started helping drive practitioners to and from different places for the rescue efforts, but my attachments kept surfacing.

On one occasion, I drove the practitioner's family members, his lawyer and other practitioners to a police station and Procuratorate to tell the officials there about Falun Dafa and the persecution, and to request an arrested practitioner's release.

We noticed that we were being followed, and my attachment of fear started to flare up. I was afraid that they'd take down my registration and find my address. But seeing that the others in the car were doing their very best to help the arrested practitioner, I realized that I should let go of my fear and focus on the rescue efforts.

The lawyer and the practitioner's family were moved by the selfless actions of our practitioners.

My hidden attachments kept surfacing though. Most of our local practitioners went to the businesses in the area and told them that practitioners were being persecuted. Since I could drive, I volunteered to go to the farthest places we planned on covering. I invited a few practitioners to come with me, and we went out to the suburbs.

I was very happy doing this at the beginning. However, I began to feel unbalanced in my heart over time. There were costs for gas and car maintenance, but no one offered to help with the expenses.

After I studied the Fa at home, I realized that I had an attachment to money and to seeking praise.

I began to ask myself, should one care about such things that much when we are intent on saving lives? Wasn't this an opportunity to eliminate my attachments and improve myself?

I decided to let go of these attachments.

Saving People in a Remote Area

A practitioner asked me to take her to her uncle’s funeral. Her uncle lived in a mountainous village, and she told me that the villagers there didn’t know the truth about Falun Dafa. It was very far, and I didn't want to go. But I am a practitioner, and my car was supposed to be used for Fa-rectification.

Teacher said:

“Dafa disciples’ duty is to save sentient beings.” (“Dafa Disciples Must Study the Fa - Fa Teaching Given at the 2011 Washington DC Metro Area Fa Conference” in Teaching the Fa at the Conference XI)

I told her that I would go.

Only a few villagers showed a positive attitude toward Dafa. Most people there didn't want to listen to us when we talked about Dafa, and some even tried to get away from us. Their minds were filled with the slanderous propaganda about Falun Dafa from the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) media.

We began to offer the villagers rides to nearby places. They were impressed by our generosity, and some were even more impressed that I could learn to drive at my age. When we spoke to them again about Dafa, they were more receptive. As a result of our efforts, over 20 people decided to quit the CCP.

The Party secretary of a factory tried to avoid us at first, but he later took a ride from us. On the journey, we got to talk to him about Dafa in a detailed and compassionate way. He gladly agreed to quit the Party after listening to us, and whenever we saw him again he would always greet us warmly.
