Senior Citizen Subjected to Repeated Arrest and Detention

January 05, 2017 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Liaoning Province, China

(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhong Weiqin is 63 years old and lives in Benxi City, Liaoning Province. She was arrested at her home by police officers and agents from the procuratorate on November 8, 2016, and transferred to the Shenyang City Women's Prison on November 15.

Ms. Zhong greatly benefited from practicing Falun Gong and wanted people to learn about the goodness of this traditional cultivation practice. As a result, she has been illegally detained many times for talking to people about the practice.

Family Visitation Refused

Officers from the Qianjin Police Station broke into Ms. Zhong's home around 9:30 a.m. on November 8, 2016. They claimed that the Xihu District Court ordered her arrest. Because Mr. Zhong has high blood pressure, the Benxi City Detention Center refused to accept her and instead she was taken to the Jinshan Hospital. Her family was not notified.

The Xihu District Court judge claimed that the arrest was ordered by the Justice Bureau.

Ms. Zhong was transferred to the Shenyang City Women's Prison on November 15, 2016. When her family visited, the guards demanded that they sign a document about her high blood pressure. When they refused to sign, the guards forbade family visitation.

Harassed for Suing Jiang Zemin

Prior to the November arrest, a policeman from the Qianjin Police Station called Ms. Zhong on July 27, 2016 and told her that she and her husband had to come to the police station to fill out some forms.

They went to the police station around 8 a.m. the next day and were immediately separated and interrogated. Policeman Ma Liang told Ms. Zhong that her daughter would be fired from her job if she refused to be fingerprinted.

The station's deputy chief asked her if her husband practiced Falun Gong, and why she sued Jiang Zemin, the former head of the communist regime. Ms. Zhong told them about the persecution and the organ harvesting from living practitioners, but they refused to listen. After the interrogation, she was taken for a physical exam, and then released because of high blood pressure.

Ms. Zhong's husband, Liang Hongjia, was detained for 5 days at the Benxi City Detention Center. Their home was ransacked. A Falun Gong book and informational materials about Falun Gong were confiscated.

Illegally Sentenced for Handing Out Shen Yun DVDs

Ms. Zhong Weiqin was reported to the police when she handed out Shen Yun DVDs in Benxi City on May 5, 2014. Officers from the Hexi Police Station arrested her and ransacked her home. They confiscated personal property, DVDs and an MP3 player. After 15 days detention in the police station, Ms. Zhong was transferred to the Benxi City Detention Center.

Her family was notified about her arrest and detention on June 25. Because there was insufficient evidence of illegal activity, the procuratorate refused to accept her case. However, the police made a few copies of the same file, created some false evidence, and resubmitted her case to the procuratorate. This time, it was accepted. Her case was later handled by the Xihu District Court and she was illegally sentenced to 3 years in prison.

Ms. Zhong Weiqin was physically and mentally abused while detained, and her health deteriorated. The detention center tried to transfer her to the Shenyang City Women's Prison. However, because of her high blood pressure and poor hearing, the prison refused to take her. She was released on medical parole on May 15, 2015.
