(Minghui.org) Mr. Sun Tongqing from Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, was recently illegally sentenced to five years in prison.
Mr. Sun bought a used computer on May 6, 2016, and went to another Falun Gong practitioner’s home to set it up. Shuangcheng Police Substation officers hiding near the practitioner’s home arrested him.
After Mr. Sun was detained for six months, Zhang Zhenting from the Shuangcheng Procuratorate brought a sentence proposal to the detention center and said they would sentence him to less than three years. Zhang told Mr. Sun to sign it. Mr. Sun saw that the document read: “The sentence should be more than three years and less than seven years.” He refused to sign.
Mr. Sun was tried in the Shuangcheng Court on December 9, 2016, without his family or lawyer being notified. Only the judge Hu Yelin, two jurors, two bailiffs, one police officerm and prosecutor Zhang Zhenting were present in the courtroom.
Zhang Zhenting argued that Mr. Sun should be given a heavy sentence based on the fact that Mr. Sun had twice been in forced labor camps. Mr. Sun defended himself during the proceedings.
Mr. Sun said that practicing Falun Gong was not illegal and that there was nothing wrong with being a good person. He contended that the prosecutor was bringing false charges against him.
Zhang objected to what Mr. Sun said and did not allow him to mention Falun Gong. He even threatened Mr. Sun, saying, “I will see to it that you are sentenced heavily!”
Mr. Sun has appealed.
