January 21, 2017 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Heilongjiang Province, China

(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioners in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province's capital and largest city, are still being targeted for their faith.

Daowai District Court tried Mr. Liu Hao on October 18, 2016, for talking to people about Falun Gong. The court sentenced him, without notifying his family, to 7.5 years in prison and fined him 20,000 yuan on December 23, 2016.

While talking to people on the street about Falun Gong, Mr. Liu was reported to police and arrested on the afternoon of April 12, 2016. He was taken to Dayoufang Police Station.

Daowai District Procuratorate approved his arrest on April 22, and he was transferred to Daowai District Detention Center.

Mr. Liu submitted an oral appeal while he was in the detention center, stating that his family had not been notified of his arrest. However, his appeal was not passed to Daowai District Court.

Mr. Liu’s family hired a lawyer, who visited Mr. Liu on January 13, 2017. The lawyer submitted a formal appeal letter to Daowai District Court.

Court clerk Tian Qing then called the lawyer, saying that the appeal letter wouldn’t be accepted, because Mr. Liu had not pleaded guilty to the charges against him.

Mr. Liu has not been allowed family visits and still wears summer clothes. He was shivering uncontrollably during a meeting with his lawyer.
