(Minghui.org) Three Chaoyang City residents were tried by the Beipiao City Court on December 29, 2016.

Ms. Mou Lihua and Mr. Shuang Yaowen were arrested when they talked to people about the persecution of Falun Gong at a farmers market on August 24, 2016. Mr. Li Jiechun was arrested at his home on September 7, 2016.

Ms. Mou told the court that she had suffered from leukemia before she began practicing Falun Gong, but became healthy afterwards. While she was detained, she was beaten and not allowed to do the Falun Gong exercises. She started experiencing symptoms of leukemia and began to bleed.

Ms. Mou's attorney pleaded not guilty on her behalf. He pointed out that the charges have no legal basis and that the prosecution evidence was fabricated. He also submitted Ms. Mou's medical records that showed that she had been diagnosed with leukemia.

Mr. Li also pleaded not guilty to the charges. He said that practicing Falun Gong and handing out Falun Gong informational material are not crimes, and that he was exercising his constitutional right as a Chinese citizen to freedom of speech.

Mr. Shuang testified that he was beaten during the police interrogation. The attorney asked the court to show the video of the interrogation. The judge said that the video was not available at the time and that the court could hold another session after the police submit the video.

All three practitioners are being held at the Beipiao Detention Center.
