September 29, 2016 |   By a Minghui correspondent from Heilongjiang Province

(Minghui.org) A Harbin City resident imprisoned for his faith is on a hunger strike to protest guards’ brutality against him.

Mr. Sun Kaiqing, 60, is a retired staff member from Harbin Normal University. He was arrested in December 2015 for talking to people about Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime. He was sentenced to 4.5 years a few weeks later and sent to Hulan Prison.

On September 29 of this year, guard Liu Chunhe pushed Mr. Sun into his office and gave him a savage beating. Mr. Sun’s face became severely bruised and swollen. He immediately went on a hunger strike to protest the brutality.

Three-time Forced Labor Detention

Prior to his latest imprisonment, Mr. Sun had been sent to Changlinzi Labor Camp three times in seven years for refusing to renounce Falun Gong.

He was first given two years of forced labor at Changlinzi Labor Camp after he was arrested in November 2001.

Less than one year into his release, he was arrested again and sent to the same labor camp.

His third arrest took place on April 18, 2008, and he was incarcerated at Changlinzi for a year.
