When a Bank Teller Accidentally Added 10,000 Yuan to My Account

July 21, 2016 |   By Xiao Fan, a Falun Dafa practitioner in Sichuan Province, China

(Minghui.org) I have been practicing Falun Dafa since 2001. My husband passed away, so I am responsible for all the farm work and taking care of my young child. I do not own the farm, so much of my income is used to pay rent. Getting by is very difficult.

One day last year, I transferred 10,000 yuan between accounts at my credit union. At home I looked at my receipt and realized that the money had been added to one account, but had not been subtracted from the other account. The teller had made an error. I knew she could get in trouble for this mistake and might even lose her job.

I returned to the credit union and told the teller that she made an error when attempting to transfer money from one of my accounts to the other. She looked confused; I believe she thought I was accusing her of cheating me. I explained further what had happened, and when she examined my account on the computer, she realized she had forgotten to record a deduction.

She was surprised. “I cannot believe you are so honest. I could have been fired for such a mistake,” she said.

I replied, “I practice Falun Dafa, and we are taught to think of others first. Please remember my words, 'Falun Dafa is great, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is great.'” I told her about the persecution of Falun Dafa, and the movement to quit the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). She was touched and agreed to quit her CCP membership.

Prior to practicing Falun Dafa, I would have kept the money. For a struggling widow, 10,000 is no small amount. However, I made the right choice, as I am sure all practitioners would do.
