Six Members of Same Family Arrested for Suing Former Chinese Leader

May 20, 2016 |   By a Minghui correspondent from Shandong Province

(Minghui.org) Six members from the same extended family in Dezhou City, Shandong Province were arrested after they filed criminal complaints against Jiang Zemin. Their complaints ask China's highest prosecution office to prosecute against former Chinese president for launching the persecution of Falun Gong, which resulted in their past detention and torture.

Two of the brothers are still detained at the time of writing.

Mr. Li Zhiqiang is serving four years in Shandong Province Prison. He was diagnosed with various health problems during the prison's admission health check, but the authorities admitted him anyway. They have also denied him medical attention and medical parole.

His older brother, Mr. Li Zhiyong, is being held at Dezhou City Detention Center. The older Mr. Li was seized by police on April 22 of this year as he opened the door to his apartment. Officers ransacked his home and assaulted him; he was bleeding from injuries to his mouth and hand.

Mr. Li Zhiyong's wife, Ms. Li Junling, had a heart attack while trying to stop the police from taking her husband away. The police sent four officers to monitor her in the hospital. They returned to raid the couple's home again a few days later.

The younger Mr. Li's son, Mr. Li Zongze, was arrested three times while seeking his father's release. A newly minted college graduate, he lost his job after his arrest. His mother Ms. Liu Yuehong was also detained for ten days.

Ms. Liu's sister, Ms. Liu Yueping, was visiting a friend this April when she was ambushed by police. She presented with high blood pressure and spat up blood due to the abuse she suffered at the detention center. Only then did the police release her on medical parole.

The four freed family members, along with other relatives, are continuing their efforts to secure the release of the two brothers.

Background

In 1999, Jiang Zemin, as head of the Chinese Communist Party, overrode other Politburo standing committee members and launched the violent suppression of Falun Gong.

The persecution has led to the deaths of many Falun Gong practitioners in the past 16 years. More have been tortured for their belief and even killed for their organs. Jiang Zemin is directly responsible for the inception and continuation of the brutal persecution.

Under his personal direction, the Chinese Communist Party established an extralegal security organ, the “610 Office,” on June 10, 1999. The organization overrides police forces and the judicial system in carrying out Jiang's directive regarding Falun Gong: to ruin their reputations, cut off their financial resources, and destroy them physically.

Chinese law allows for citizens to be plaintiffs in criminal cases, and many practitioners are now exercising that right to file criminal complaints against the former dictator.
