When Dr. Wu’s wife and daughter arrived at the courthouse on the morning of April 28, judge Lin Ming met with them. He said that Dr. Wu could face up to a 15 year sentence based on the amount of Falun Gong informational materials found in his home, even though the court might do its best to reduce the term. He said that Dr. Wu would probably get three to seven years, as anything less would not be approved by the 610 Office.

While they were talking, Ms. Wu noticed that a police car had arrived, and saw that her husband was in it. They were all ordered to the courtroom. In short order, judge Lin Ming announced that they had found Dr. Wu guilty of crimes against the state, and sentenced him to three years and three months in prison.

Ms. Wu and her daughter were stunned. They had no idea that the proceedings were secret. In addition to Dr. Wu and his family, only five court officials were present, including the judge, assessor Lin Guoping, assessor Yang Zhiming, and clerk Zhong Ruicheng.

Dr. Wu and his family contested the verdict and said they would appeal. The entire trial lasted less than 30 minutes.
