[Celebrating World Falun Dafa Day] Leading the Workplace by Returning to Honesty

May 13, 2016 |   By a Falun Dafa practitioner in China

(Minghui.org) After I began to practice Falun Dafa (also called Falun Gong) in May 1998, I experienced a profound change in my personality. I was always a self-righteous and argumentative person; people were afraid to deal with me, because I always wanted to come out on top in a conflict. People gave me the nickname “Debate Champion,” which was not a compliment. All that changed after I became a Falun Dafa practitioner.

Two Buckets of Paint

As a warehouse keeper, I used to take home things from the warehouse for personal use. I never bought anything if I could find the item in the warehouse. I stopped doing that after I began to practice Falun Dafa.

One day, I bought two buckets of paint to use on my home and put them in my office. When a colleague saw the paint, he noticed that the paint was not a brand we kept in our warehouse. He asked me who the paint belonged to, and I told him that it was mine.

He looked at me in disbelief. His reaction was understandable, because taking company inventory home was common practice. When I decided to become an honest person, my colleagues thought I was a fool. The coworker later told others about this and treated it like a joke.

After the communist regime began to persecute Falun Dafa in 1999, the police started harassing me and other practitioners. One day a local police chief came to our office, and a colleague told him the “paint” story. After that, the officer treated me respectfully. He moved a small stool, sat next to me, and asked me to tell him my cultivation stories. After a while, he said, “You people [practitioners] are indeed good people.” Another police officer told him to remember why they came to see me and said, “Are you going to take her side now?” The police chief then turned to his colleague and told him to get some lunch for me. We later became good friends.

Two Coils of Copper Wire

My company bought two coils of expensive copper wire but never used it. They stayed in the warehouse for years but were not listed in our inventory. A new supervisor told me to write the copper wire off so he could take it. I refused, because it was a violation of policy. He was upset but did not say anything. A few days later, he organized five people to audit my records. I knew he would give me a hard time if they found anything. The group spent five days going through my records of the past 12 years and found nothing wrong. They were embarrassed when they saw me.

I was not happy about this at first. However, as a practitioner, I realized that what I did was good for him. The copper wire was worth thousands of yuan, and he could have accumulated a lot of karma if I had not stopped him.

The supervisor was on his guard for a few days, anticipating a nasty fight with me. But the fight never took place. When he realized that I was not going to talk about it, he was relieved. Several colleagues praised me, “Falun Dafa is indeed great. She would have really let you have it in the past.”

Years later, when the supervisor accepted another job, he and I talked. He told me how he had resisted police pressure to protect me.

Another colleague recalled the supervisor telling the police, “I had a confrontation with her some time ago. But she is an honest employee who has never done anything inappropriate. She just does the [Falun Dafa] exercises. What’s wrong with that?” The officers were left speechless.

Five Pieces of Lumber

One day, I got a phone call from my mother-in-law, who asked me to get some lumber for a project at home. She knew that I used to take things home from the warehouse. I told her, “I’m sorry, I can't do that anymore.”

A colleague overheard my conversation and said, “I have some lumber. Let me know when you need it.” He dropped off five pieces of lumber at my house. I did not turn him down, but there was the issue of taking company material without paying for it.

I went to the manager in charge of used building materials and said, “A colleague brought me some used lumber, and I need to pay for it.” He was surprised and said, “Don’t get so serious over a little thing like that. Just keep the wood.” I told him that, as a Falun Dafa practitioner, I could not take advantage of the company. He was quite moved and murmured, “It would be great if everyone were like you.”

At my retirement, he said, “I wish you could stay until I leave. You’ve saved me a lot of headaches.”
