Family of Three Taken Away for Keeping Their Faith

April 12, 2016 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Guangdong Province, China

(Minghui.org) A couple and their oldest daughter in Jieyang City were recently arrested for talking to locals about Falun Gong, a spiritual practice currently persecuted in China.

The wife was taken to Huilai County Detention Center after being arrested on March 2. She has been on a hunger strike in protest of the persecution for over a week at the time of this report.

Refusing to give up their faith, the members of this family have been arrested, detained, tortured and fined multiple times in the past 16 years.

Ms. Zheng Shaoqing, 53, is a school teacher. She recovered from severe dizziness and lower back pain after she became a practitioner in 1998. She was arrested three times in 2000 and detained in police stations and a drug rehabilitation center for over three months.

In September 2002 Ms. Zheng was arrested and tortured in Rongshi Brainwashing Center for nearly two months. Four months after her release, agents from the 610 Office took Ms. Zheng from her school in March 2003 and put her in the Sanshui Brainwashing Center.

She was given a full physical examination, presumably to be used in organ profiling for China's state-sanctioned organ harvesting. To protest her torture, Ms. Zheng went on a hunger strike.

The authorities force-fed her, forced her to watch propaganda videos all day, deprived her of sleep, and put unknown drugs into her food. She started to develop unbearable stomach pain and sweat profusely. She was released in September after six months of torture.

Mr. Wu Changqing, 55, was arrested three times in 2000 and detained for more than six months.

The authorities also targeted Mr. Wu's mother, Ms. Lin Xilian, and his daughter, Ms. Wu Yuezhen, 30. Both have suffered arbitrary arrest and detention. Their home was often ransacked and their phone tapped. They were frequently followed and fined.
