Woman to Be Tried for Her Faith After Extended Detention

March 22, 2016 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Liaoning Province, China

(Minghui.org) Ms. Gao Song of Shenyang City was arrested and detained for talking to people about the persecution of Falun Gong in September 2015. She is now likely facing trial, as her case has been forwarded to the local court.

She has been detained for six months since her arrest, far beyond the legally allowed term. Her family have received nothing beyond a 30-day detention notice. The authorities have refused to respond the family's calls.

Ms. Gao has been arrested and detained twice—in 1999 and 2002—since the persecution started. The police sentenced her to a year of forced labor following her second arrest because she refused to give up her faith.

She went on a hunger strike in protest of the sentence. Her health deteriorated, and she was released before she was sent to a camp. She left home and went from place to place to avoid further persecution.

Authorities confiscated her personal identification from her family, ensuring that she cannot hold a regular job.
